Alert Marquee – Weather Pulse Plug-in

Alert Marquee ImageI started the Alert Marquee plug-in many months ago with the intentions of making this a pay for play plug-in.  But I recently decided to release the plug-in for Weather Pulse users for free!  The Alert Marquee plug-in would sell very well as a plug-in,  in fact it would do real well, but I feel this one should be shared, it's incredible!   I may turn this into a stand-alone software, separate from Weather Pulse and this may be the direction this cool plug-in goes in the near future.

After many months of testing, there are absolutely no bug reports open and it's ready for distribution.  Thanks to everyone that helped out during the beta testing, your input was very important and I value your opinions and suggestions.  I wont be writing any fancy help files for this plug-in.  It's really quite simple, install it and forget about it.  The plug-in is made to be non-intrusive and use little resources, it functions correctly as distributed without the need to change any settings at all.  You will not know it's running unless you have a weather alert in your current city that your monitoring.

Weather Pulse must be running to use this plug-in, that's why we call it a plug-in.  I also strongly suggest that all your cities you add in Weather Pulse are added by the city name, NOT the postal code.  You may not get alerts if your city name is not used, using the postal code can grab the weather from an alternate location and you will not get important weather alerts.

I will add some more pictures here soon so you can see what this is all about and post a link to the Alert Marquee plug-in download, I need to finish packaging the final release and it should be this week-end.

If you need help with anything, you can always make a comment here and I'll answer as soon as possible.

I'm hoping many of you find the value in this plug-in and take it upon yourself to buy us a beer!

In the Alerts Configuration I have a couple of filters setup. While those filters work great with Weather Pulse they don't work with Alert-Marquee. At least that's been my experience so far.

  • Brad says:

Yes, at this time the filters are not configured to work with the Marquee. So as you say, if you have filters in WeatherPulse that you want to use in Alert Marquee, you simply cannot right now. This is something I will consider adding in the next version.

When WeatherPulse starts, I would like the Marquee to display, then hide after message was displayed. I think there is an option for this, but maybe it doesn't work?
Also, when right clicking on Marquee to hide it, once hidden, how can you make it display again?

  • Brad says:

    John,

Make sure you have the first option checked "Display Alert Marquee when Weather Pulse starts" and the 3rd option checked "If Display Alert Marquee on Start then auto-hide". Now the display will show at start and then go away on it's own after 20 seconds or so. When you have the settings screen up, the marquee will always stay visible so you can adjust. The minute you hide the settings screen, the timer will start again and it will hide if enabled. But if a REAL alert is happening, the Marquee will NOT auto-hide, because you would miss the alert if you were not sitting at the computer.

To display the Marquee when no alert exists, use the WeatherPulse plug-in menu option entitled "Alert Marquee Settings".

  • John says:

I see, well there is a flash flood alert at the moment so that explains why it continues to scroll.
If there is another alert added, will it just append to the end of this one or? Many times we have multiple alerts here.

  • Brad says:

After you hide the alert, the old alert will not display again. But if the alert text changes, like when the weather service updates the alert, then you may see the same alert again but something has changed. It does not append the alerts together.

tropicdesigns, you have done it again. thank you. I have been with you sence 2005 or 20006 anyway when I worked at one of the most remote places on earth. Adak Alaska. The birth place of the winds.

    Thanks again

I just added the plug-in and I have a question. In the description it says...The plug-in also contains an audible alert, a configurable sound for you so that when your not at your computer, you will hear the alert too. but I haven't found where to change the sound at. Can you tell me how to change the sounds for the alert marquee?

  • Randi Slaughter says:

I have the option checked for marquee to display at top of screen, but it remains firmly entrenched about 2/3 of the way up, and can't be moved. Also, how do I uninstall it?

  • Brad says:

Try setting it to the bottom or top, change it.

The uninstall is in the Windows uninstall software listing, near the top. Just exit WeatherPulse first, then use the uninstall.
